Look at the naked tree against the winter sky: it is a network of wires that expands into infinity and distributes energy in the universe. There is tension in the branches but as they meet the contrasting serenity of the sky, it leads to an overall balance. Now that you have seen, you will remember: trees are conductors of vital energy between the land and the sky.

Promise that you will remember.

And can you remember when we were driving back home at night? We always took the road through the woods.

The car's headlights illuminated pieces of the forest. The fleeting flashes of light revealed the intermingling of trunks and branches.

It formed an irregular grid, this mess of thick strokes and sharp lines, which protected the access to a deeper reality, that of the great beasts and all magical mysteries.

My eyes probed the rows of trees and the coppices as they appeared in the light, and I dreamt of catching even only a glimpse of the witchery that lives deep in the woods.

Behind the window, the forest passed too quickly and I never saw the wolves, even though I could feel their presence. It was obvious that the pack was nearby, it was necessary.

There is something hidden in the movement of the trees.

From the subterranean realms, from the aerial spaces, trees channel enchanted enigmas into this world that we believe to be ours and that many folks inhabit with us, but we fail to see. It is the fairy things that cause the trunks to tremble as they pass through them. It is the slowest of dances: trees are danced by time, the time it takes for the leafy beings to stand in front of us passers-by who remain ignorant of all they know and will not tell us.

But hey sure it's just the wind. Just a little wind.

Stop.

Remember.

Look at the trees.
